Riku sighed softly, placing the Nintendo DS back onto the glass coffee table.  There was no way this was going to work.  He was going to get himself rejected, and most likely slapped.  His frown was deep, creases forming on his face, and he couldn't help the thought that he'd be getting premature wrinkles.  Sora kept saying he was prematurely gray—"It's silver Sora!!"—so why not wrinkles too?  He could be mistaken as an elderly person when he was only a college freshman.
Sora was still back on the islands, a senior, and his text messages were blowing up Riku's phone—not to mention his bill—since summer started on his end of the world.  Riku still had coursework to be completed, not to mention sleep to catch up on as he'd gotten so little in the last week or so, but he'd neglected all of that for one special project.
With Sora's birthday fast approaching, he knew the best thing—and the only thing the brunette truly wanted from him this year—was a visit from Riku.
Riku, with his plane leaving earlier than early tomorrow morning, chose to spend the unspeakably late hours of the night completely absorbed in negative thoughts, and putting the finishing touches on Sora's actual present.  He didn't think his presence was worthy in any way of replacing a real present, even where Sora—the same kid who hadn't gotten him a Christmas present for the first time until eleventh grade—was involved.
Riku sighed again, almost grunting and dropping his head into his hands, because, simply, this wasn't going to work.
The silverette slept on the plane ride, and when he awoke once more, his gaze was met with the comforting familiarity of his island home.  His plan for the day was the only thing on his mind, nerves twisting his stomach into crazy knots.  He pulled his hair into a tight ponytail, the kind that felt like it could rip your hair right out of your head, as a form of distraction, and grabbed his bags, headed towards home—his home first, and then Sora's.
He dropped his bags in the entryway, and was greeted by both of his parents before his father had to head back to work, leaving him with his all-knowing mother.
"I'm assuming he doesn't know you're here?" she smiled in a know-it-all fashion, taking his hand and pulling him towards the couch.  He hugged his knees then, tight against his toned chest, and gnawed his bottom lip, shaking his head as his only form of response.  She leaned forward, gently untangling the ribbon from his hair, so it fell as a curtain around his face.  "You'll be fine," she murmured.
"It's not going to work," he finally voiced his only concern, peering at his mother with eyes a glazed over aquamarine.  "He's going to hate me."
The woman smiled then, a slight glint in her equally aqua colored eyes.  "Then don't do it," she mumbled.
"You're supposed to tell me how much Sora adores me, or something in terms of motherly comfort.  Some mother you are."
"You're an adult now," she shrugged, leaning away from her son, observing how much he'd changed in the last year.  "This should be easy—you don't need me to tell you how much Sora adores you or whatever motherly comfort you were expecting, Riku."
"If I knew for sure, I wouldn't…" he trailed off, turning his blurred gaze to the floor.
"Love has its risks, Ri," she hummed, reaching forward to trail a thumb beneath his eyes.  "Risks you have to be willing to take, otherwise you'll never know."
"But what if—"
She cut him off easily with, "Sora will never change his mind about you—all he wants is to see you.  So go; you're wasting daylight."
And Riku did, heading towards Sora's house, just down the road.  There, he placed the DS carefully on the doorstep, hit the doorbell, and bolted for the back door.  If there was one thing he knew for absolute positive, it was that Sora always forgot to lock the back door.  Slipping in as quietly as possible, he leaned against the kitchen doorway, peering into the living room, where he spotted Sora.
His brown locks got longer, but still stuck out in their odd way, his azure eyes just barely hidden by their lids as he peered down at the gaming device, mouth forming a shocked 'o.'
Riku's heart was speeding, he felt sick to his stomach, but he still managed to push himself away from the wall, cross his arms over his chest and smirk as he walked into the room.
"So, what do you say?" Riku hummed.  Sora jumped at the sound of his voice, dropping the device onto the carpet where it snapped shut, lying there unharmed.  He latched himself onto Riku, clutching the elder's shoulders to support himself on the tips of his toes, and stuck his lips to his.  The kiss was clumsy, with clinks of teeth and fumble of tongues, but to them, it was flawless, as the entire universe turned to just those two.
"So, that's a yes?" Riku mumbled, drawing a hesitant thumb over Sora's lips to wipe away the left over saliva.  Sora's eyes were wide, sparkling, his mouth that same stunned 'o.'  He slipped down so that he was standing normal, wrapped his arms around Riku's waist, drawing him close once more, at loss for words.
"I can't believe you even had to ask," he whispered breathlessly, after many moments of astonished silence.
"Well," Riku mumbled back, nose pressed against Sora's head, absorbing the scent.
"How'd you come up with something like that?" Sora asked in wonder.  The silverette pulled away, bending down to draw the discarded DS, flipping it open and smirking at his handy work.  Staring back at him were six Eevees, lined top to bottoms, with the names Will, You, Go, Out, With, and Me?
He placed the device on the coffee table, shrugging his shoulders a bit.  The brunette practically tackled him onto the couch, nestling his face into the other's neck.  Locked together that way was how they spent the night.
